Advice on Choosing the Colour For Your Room

So, you've decided you are not happy with the current paint/colour of your Oxfordshire home and feel it's in need of change and you want it done professionally by an Oxford painter. Now comes the not so easy task of choosing exactly what colour and style you want your room painted.

Most people either rush this step or take it for granted and end up with a paint theme that they quickly become bored of. The first step of your painting job is to choose the actual type of paint, water based paint is odour less which is why it's popular. Although for a more shiny finish you can choose and oil-based paint, semi-gloss or glossy paint, your Oxford decorator should be able to offer you a wide variety of paint styles so you can choose the right one for you.

After you have chosen the style of paint you then need to make sure the Oxford painters/painter properly prepare your walls. In most cases existing layers of paint are oil-based, this means it needs to be trimmed using sandpaper and then wiped clean using either a de-glosser or liquid sander. Make sure your decorator plans to do this otherwise the paint will not look good going over an existing layer. On average this is standard protocol for Oxford painters and decorators.

After your walls have been prepared you then need to think carefully about the colour scheme you will use. Neutral tones give a more soothing and relaxing effect, however if you want your room to be vibrant a brighter colour would suite say a red or orange.

After that leave your Oxford painters to get on with the job, make sure you check in with them every once in a while to make sure they are doing what you want and you will end up with a room you are happy with.
